On our company anniversary, enCity celebrated our people, journey and purpose over a four-office wide online gathering, which was well attended in party hats and company colors. The meaningful moments of the day included shared words of wisdom by some of our people that highlights what all of us believe in.

Professor Heng Chye Kiang, our Senior Advisor reminded us of our beginnings. “It’s important to make a difference, and I think in the past few years, we’ve done that.”  He also reflected on the beginnings of the company, the share values and direction being primary drivers; along with making an impact along the way. He stressed the importance of our work in mitigating climate change, currently at the forefront of global challenges and encouraged us to work harder and push our limits.

Indeed, there is no better place to test our limits. enCity remains “an organization that truly cares for their people’s professional aspirations and passion, truly nurtures their creativity and integrity and creates an environment of trust and joy”, in the words of Dzung Do Nguyen, our Co-founder and CEO as he spoke about why he started the company.

“At enCity, a talented engineer who loves design like Hai Pham has led many award-winning master plans, a thoughtful and societal-minded hydrologist like Dr Phi is driving our policy and economic team; a young advocate for sustainability like Heather is now leading our efforts in new planning frontier such as a medical park and Lim Chu Kang agri-hub.” – Dzung continued.

Dzung also began the company so that it would “go beyond business, aim high in its social and environmental impacts and focus on manifesting and celebrating the essence of each place and community.”

“We declined a project when we saw its potential harm to a national park; we conducted many stakeholders engagement workshops and built engagement platforms for Thu Duc Master plan because believe in hearing the voice of everyone; we design places that celebrate views to Liangbiang mountain in Da Lat and mangrove forest in Hoi An because we know nature is in the soul and hearts of the locals.”

He also reflected that “with the founding of enCity, we are brave and confident to declare that any community, any city or region can be successful by building on their identity, their local know-how and their way of life, and that urbanization is not equal to Westernisation.

We enable cities with our diverse spirit!

As Doni Iskandar, our Principal in Urban Design and Architecture, Bandung Office Manager, says, “success is not a one-point goal at the end, but lies in the journey itself, every milestone in our journey to grow is success. To overcome our fear and uncertainty, move out of the comfort zone is our success, this little milestone of success will bring us to greater success in the future.”

It was indeed a great chance to gather, encourage and inspire each other through our shared goals and we look forward to tackling another significant year together.
