Launched by the Design Business Chamber Singapore in partnership with the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, the Singapore Good Design Award recognises and affirms projects that set the benchmark for exceptional design quality that benefits communities in Singapore and beyond. Projects are evaluated by a jury panel of design experts from various countries around the world. Winners in the Sustainable Design category were determined to have reduced or eliminated negative environmental impact through thoughtful designs and/or design processes.
With a vision of creating a sustainable sanctuary for people and wildlife alike, the Hue Sanctuary master plan proposes a modern urban township immersed in nature and inspired by the rich natural and built heritage of Vietnam’s Hue Province.
The proposed strategy is centered on adaptive resilience, ecological restoration, and a celebration of local culture. Historic wetland habitats are restored to support local migratory bird species and to enhance the resilience of the site as an urban floodplain. Design inspiration came from the vernacular architecture of Hue, the site’s agricultural heritage, and the intertwining of water with local life. Rather than rejecting tradition in search of modernity, this project offers a reinvention of ancient heritage and a reconnection with the land and water.
Through careful, inspired design, Hue Sanctuary is an urban development that is environmentally, ecologically and culturally sustainable.
enCity aims to continue solving critical issues of urban development through innovation in design.
