The “Greener Together – Green Urban Transition – from Denmark to Vietnam” forum, co-organised by the Danish Embassy and Ashui, brought together experts from various countries to share their insights on the direction and solutions for restructuring cities towards sustainability, mitigating negative environmental impacts, and enhancing the quality of life.

Through the presentation titled “Green and Adaptive – Creating Livable Cities through Green Infrastructure Solutions”, Hai presented comprehensive solutions for developing green infrastructure, aiming to build a smart, sustainable city that is resilient to climate change.

Citing examples from projects implemented in Vietnam and Singapore, he highlighted five key lessons:

  1. Leveraging distinctive landscapes to create unique living environments, guiding urban space based on landscape characteristics; especially for the planning of Ho Chi Minh City, proposing urban design solutions from a macro to micro scale to preserve and enhance the city’s river and waterway identity as well as cultural and historical values.
  2. Establish an ecological corridor system with a strategy to connect ecosystems within urban areas to increase green space accessibility for residents and enhance biodiversity.
  3. Integrate flood control infrastructure with green landscape systems, creating attractive destinations, combining flood control solutions within urban spaces, and restoring ecosystems.
  4. Create space for water by naturalizing water flows and intertwining green infrastructure within urban structures, while building urban areas capable of adapting to flooding, restoring nature, and honoring heritage.
  5. Enhance green space through smart urban management solutions such as greening reserved development land, increasing green coverage in areas lacking land through green management indices.
