On 18 March 2023 (Saturday), enCity Bandung team members participated in the talk “Water Sensitive Urban Design: Exploring the Bandung Basin and water-friendly city design,” organised by Lokalab.co at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Speaking at the event was our Associate in Master Planning and Urban Design, Reny Revariah and ITB SAPPK Magister Lecturer, Asep Darmana. The talk was moderated by our Bandung Office Manager and Associate in Business Operations, Muhammad Farhan.

The event’s theme focuses on a water-sensitive urban design (WSUD) approach for addressing flooding and other water-related issues in the Bandung Basin. Our WSUD expert, Reny, presented her analysis and findings for the Bandung Basin. She highlighted the main problems that can be solved through sustainable master planning and urban design. Her presentation not only showcased enCity’s analysis on the conditions of the basin, but also benchmarked international case studies, like the Sponge City Approach in China, and of one of our WSUD projects – Hue Sanctuary, which provides an excellent example on mitigating and adapting urban form and design for flood-prone and ecologically-sensitive areas.

At enCity, we combine WSUD with hydrological analysis to create comprehensive planning solutions through a multidisciplinary team of planners, engineers and water experts. We believe that this contextual and nature-based approach, together with in-depth understanding of green and blue systems and infrastructure, allows us to design efficient and resilient environments in harmony with water and nature.
