On May 18th 2022, Dr Martin Rama, Former World Bank Chief Economist for the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region, South Asia region and Former Lead Economist for Vietnam, visited enCity’s Saigon office. We had the unique opportunity to gain valuable insights from his vast experience, especially in South and Southeast Asia.
enCity’s team thoroughly enjoyed Dr Rama’s visit, where not only did he present his work and experiences in conservation, but the team also got a chance to discuss their own findings and hear Dr Rama’s thoughts on their queries.
In the sharing session with all enCitizens entitled “Heritage conservation: Experience and viewpoints from an economist’s perspective”, Dr Rama shared his thoughts on privatization of heritage assets and garnering investment for heritage buildings with fascinating examples from Delhi to Hanoi and his ideas on the potential of investment in conservation through heritage funds for greater conservation viability.
enCity’s team had an immensely valuable discussion; many questions and opinions were furnished throughout the dynamic session, with a high level of engagement from all our offices. We are particularly appreciative of Dr. Rama’s shared wisdom on mapping traditional buildings within dense cities, given enCity’s recent work in heritage conservation in Singapore.
