enCity CEO proposed strategies to sustain Nha Trang City growth in the post-Covid era
Speaking at the conference on the Master Plan Revision of Nha Trang City held on 8 May 2021, CEO of enCity, Mr. Dzung Do Nguyen stated that now is a critical time to draft development strategies for the city. The city tourism revenue already decreased by 40% in 2020 due to the disruptions caused by the pandemic, which had a significant impact to the main local economic sector.

As a solution to this issue, Mr. Dzung proposed to attract international markets through transforming isolated tourist spots and islands in Nha Trang Bay into “special tourism zones” that can be connected to Cam Ranh airport through water transport. Working towards the goal of economic, social and environmental sustainability, Mr. Dzung enumerated five specific actions for its implementation: (1) create a comprehensive plan for Nha Trang Bay that will balance the conservation of marine ecosystems with the development of infrastructure, tourism zones, fisheries and urban areas; (2) promote Nha Trang’s diverse urban heritage, from the Champa Kingdom until today, to build on the city’s unique destination offerings; (3) assess the city’s natural assets – mountain, river, lagoon and sea ecosystems – to preserve local biodiversity and landscape features while identifying new development opportunities; (4) engage with local residents to understand the city’s core values in relation to the people of Nha Trang; and (5) link urban planning with economic development through involving businesses, such as tourism, biomedical science and information technology, to create new collaborative value chains.
