To wrap up 2021 and kick off the new year, enCity organized a company-wide vote for “enCitizens of the Year”. The award celebrates members who best represent enCity’s three core values – Engage to Build Trust, Envision to Foster Innovation, Enable to Create Impacts.

At the Year-end ceremony on January 14, 2021, Dzung Do Nguyen (Co-founder + CEO of enCity) shared his vision to create a globally-impactful organization that lasts for many generations and makes better cities for everyone. The key to realize this vision is through building a world-class team. Thus, enCity leaders want to attract smart, kind, and cool people, who not only want to transform the world, but also be the reflection of a better world.

By popular vote, these are the team members who stood out in 2021 (2 awardees for each core value):

ENGAGE TO BUILD TRUST Awardees

enCitizens who Engage to Build Trust are committed to partnership-building, both internally amongst enCitizens as well as with other partners and clients. They create a warm and conducive environment for colleagues to open up and team members to thrive; they actively foster collaboration and partnerships with colleagues and other partners. They also go beyond the scope of work and professional relationships to establish understanding and empathy with clients and partners.

The two enCitizens who best represent this core value in 2021 are:

  • Duong Vuong (Senior Associate, Planning + Urban Design)

Duong is an experienced planner with an incredible ability to manage teams and organize work, which is extremely important for building trust in the company. One team member commented that: “Even though Duong is busy, I can ask her anytime, any questions, and she will still manage to find time to answer.” This generosity and can-do spirit, together with a good sense of humour, make Duong a well-loved enCitizen.

  • Doni Iskandar (Principal, Urban Design + Architecture; Bandung Office Manager)

Doni brings new values to the company, and always strives to enable new things, new impacts. As the newly promoted office manager of Bandung office (Indonesia), Doni always encourages team members to share their ideas and propose strategies for each project, fostering a really collaborative environment where everyone feels their input has value.

ENVISION TO FOSTER INNOVATION Awardees

enCitizens who Envision to Foster Innovation are creative forward-thinking, both their professional work as well as in daily tasks and interactions with other team members, partners, and clients. They constantly look for new ways to improve existing processes, suggesting novel ideas every chance they get… They are not afraid to take risks to improve existing situations, and adopt an outcome-driven approach to solve complex problems.

Two enCitizens who best represent this core value in 2021 are:

  • Ngoc Dang (Senior Associate in Partnerships, Manager of Marketing + Communication; Hanoi Office Manager)

Ngoc is without a doubt an innovation driving force of enCity in the past year. Her willingness to learn and to experiment again and again are the sauce for innovation. As other team members commented, Ngoc always brings fresh ideas to the way she does marketing and branding for the company, operations management, human resource management, as well as in her care for the well-being of employees in the company.

  • Heather Banerd (Senior Associate, Integrated Design + Sustainability)

Heather has great ideas that consistently come up in discussions and conversations, driven by her expertise and passion for sustainability. She is very creative and articulate about her ideas. “Heather is outspoken when it comes to enhancing workflows and designs and goes beyond the brief to produce quality output”, one enCitizen commented. Heather does not shy away from any hard conversation, knowing that only through collaboration and open discussions do great ideas form.

ENABLE TO CREATE IMPACTS Awardees

enCitizens who Enable to Create Impacts are do-ers at heart, and are always ready and willing to make things happen, either internally at enCity or with clients and partners. They commit to delivering results and realizing plans despite challenges and obstacles; guide, support, and mentor team members to reach their fullest potentials.

Two enCitizens who best represent this core value in 2021 are:

  • Linh Trinh (Senior Associate in Planning, Ho Chi Minh City Office Manager)

Linh has high professional experience and ability to manage teams and organize work. It is an extremely important factor to build trust in the company and create impact. One member commented that: “Besides her professionalism, Linh has a warm character with a positive attitude and high effectiveness in working. Linh always tries her best to make things work with enthusiasm.” Although Linh only became the Ho Chi Minh City Office Manager one month ago, she has enabled many significant and positive changes for the office and the company.

  • Hai Pham (Principal, Infrastructure + Planning; Manager of Master Planning + Design)

As one of the company founding members, Hai is a well-regarded expert with many years of experience in the industry. He manages the planning and design department for Vietnam, guiding a team of professionals in planning, urban design, architecture and transport planning. He is very kind, smart, and humble. Hai does whatever it takes to get the job done, evidently shown through this comment from fellow team members: “Hai works really hard as one of the main client-facing enCitizens, going from meeting to meeting with clients from all different projects in place of those of us who can’t travel. Thanks Hai!”

Last but not least, enCity wants to honor one special member who represents all three core values. She engages to build trust, she envisions to foster innovation, and she enables to create impacts inside and outside the company. And she is:

  • Hoa Nguyen (Senior Associate in Policy + Planning; Learning + Development Coordinator; Singapore Office Manager)

Hoa has suggested and implemented many changes to systems and processes since joining. She is always thinking about the best way to operate, planning workshops to understand the best way forward and follows through on these improvements. She is very proactive in managing projects, and builds great relationships with the team.

As the office manager in Singapore, Hoa keeps the Singapore office engaged and connected with each other, organizing outings and events and activities, both big and small, to foster team bonding and encourage openness in the office. Hoa promotes a warm office culture, which is reflected in the way she handles both internal and external office operations.

Congratulations to all awardees of 2021! In 2022, enCity encourages all our members to keep these core values close to their hearts and their heads as they continue building better cities. Other than growth and success, we also hope that 2022 will be a year of balance for enCitizens, with each and every team member growing sustainably alongside the company.
