From 22 to 24 this August, implementing the cooperation framework between the 4 Asian – Pacific regional planning councils (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Viet Nam), ENCITY DCEO Trang Vuong will be joining the business trip together with Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association (VUPDA) to Seoul. She will be the main speaker at the International Conference on Asia-Pacific Planning Societies (ICAPPS) conference on “Connected Cities: Communities, Walkability, and AI”. Her paper, “AI in Urban Planning and Design: Applications and Considerations”, focuses on the development of AI in life and the field of Planning and Design in particular, referenced by enCity projects in which we successfully applied this technology.
The presentation discusses the historical development of AI from the 1950s to the present, emphasizing its long evolution from early days to the rise of deep learning and big data. In urban planning and design, AI has been effectively utilised to automate repetitive tasks such as data and benchmarking analysis, public engagement tools, predictive modeling, optimisation for efficiency, and visualisation.
However, AI cannot replace humans’ unique methodology and expert knowledge. Notable examples include Data Analysis for Ho Chi Minh City’s 30 years of urban development, the Development Projection Model for regional plans, and Public Engagement platforms for large cities.
