Vietnam Town originates from the Vietnamese market in the centre of Udon Thani, where most residents and workers are people of Vietnamese origin. The design of the neighborhood, from the entrance gate to the facade colors and street decorations, is a heartfelt gift from enCity Urban Solutions to the Vietnamese community abroad.
The design for Vietnam Town is inspired by the quintessence of Vietnamese culture from South to North, from traditional patterns and motifs to the iconic bougainvillea trellises and the typology of porches and sidewalks. The main concept behind Vietnam Town is to connect the community through cultural and commercial activities, recreating the familiar images of Vietnam throughout the street.
According to Duong Vuong, the principal architect for the project, “I am honoured to participate in such a meaningful project, with the aspiration to create a space that accommodates existing daily needs of residents and workers, as well as to create a foundation for the street to host cultural, commercial, community, and artistic activities in the future.”
The opening ceremony of Vietnam Town was attended by Chairman of the National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue, Governor of Udon Thani Wanchai Kongkasem, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Phan Chi Thanh, local officials, Vietnamese associations, and the Vietnamese business community in Thailand.
Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue recognised the first and only Vietnam Town in the world, thanks to the support of the Udon Thani government. Vietnam Town will develop business, cultural, and tourism activities, becoming a destination for the Vietnamese community in Thailand and others who visit.
